Dear friends,

I just want to say thank you for the support you’re giving me by reading my blog. It’s been about five months since I started Mimi in Fashionland. Every day I try to bring you interesting subjects and pictures about fashion and other topics and I will continue to do so. It brings me such joy when hearing that people like reading my columns, articles and news. If it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t even be writing at all. In the New Year I have plans to expand my current blog with some extra features. What would you guys think of a Mimi in Fashionland video channel with fashion videos, interviews & reports by me? Also I was thinking it would be fun to give some weekly fashion tips trough video and I’m going to introduce someone new to you (exciting!) who will give beauty and make-up tips! For now I’d just like to get to know my readers a little better. If you have any questions for me at all requiring fashion, lifestyle, art, love or anything don’t even hesitate a second to ask me for advise. I’ll answer as much as possible!

So that said, I hope you’ll keep reading & enjoying Mimi in Fashionland, as it is my pleasure to write for you guys.

Ik wil jullie graag bedanken voor het lezen en steunen van mijn blog. Het is nu zo’n vijf maanden geleden dat ik Mimi in Fashionland heb opgezet. Elke dag probeer ik jullie weer interessant nieuws en foto’s over fashion en andere onderwerpen te brengen, en dit zal ik zeker ook blijven doen. Het maakt mij zo gelukkig om te horen dat mensen genieten van mijn artikelen, columns & nieuwtjes. Ik heb het aan jullie te danken dat ik schrijf. Voor in het nieuwe jaar heb ik plannen om mijn blog uit te breiden met extra features. Wat zouden jullie bijvoorbeeld vinden van een Mimi in Fashionland video channel met fashion videos, interviews & reports gepresenteerd door mijzelf? Ook had ik bedacht dat het leuk zou zijn om een wekelijkse video met fashion tips te doen en ik zal jullie gaan voorstellen aan iemand die beauty & make-up tips zal geven! Voor nu is alles wat ik wil mijn lezers wat beter te leren kennen. Als jij een vraag hebt over fashion, lifestyle, kunst, liefde of welk onderwerp dan ook (of je wilt gewoon wat tips) aarzel dan ook geen seconde mij advies te vragen. Ik zal zo veel mogelijk beantwoorden!

red carpet & party pictures: Esquire magazine event

My good friends from Esquire magazine invited me to attend the awards for best-dressed Dutch male celeb of the past 20 years! Gorgeous men with great style…why not! So, past Monday I glammed myself up and wore a stunning River Island chiffon dress (what can I say, it’s one of my favorite brands as you all know). The lilac dress had transparent fabric on the arms and chunky cuffs at the ends covered with white bling, pearls & beads! Thank you River Island! I brought my beautiful stepsister Malaya along to pose with me on the carpet (she’s such a natural beauty). She wore a River Island dress as well; one shoulder, layered goddess dress with glitters. My photographer Meis Belle Wahr was noticed between the paparazzi as she was a young & stylish girl standing as only female between lets say ‘a little older’ men (no offense, you know I love you guys). Anyway, all the celebs and party people cleaned up very nice for the red carpet. I especially thought that DJ Don Diablo looked hot in his one piece (jump)suite and studded gloves. I just simply love his style. Men with great different look where nominated for the title ‘best dressed man in 20 years’ and the winner was extravagant poet Jules Deelder. His dark ‘villain’ look is one of a kind and fits him so well! Malaya, my friend Kurt Elshot & his darling of a girlfriend stayed with me during the after party. We drank delicious drinks & danced for hours (the rich & famous looked at us like were crazy for actually having fun). Check out the pictures!

Mijn goede vrienden van Esquire magazine nodigden mij uit om afgelopen maandag naar de uitreiking van de ‘best geklede man van de afgelopen 20 jaar’ te komen. Lekkere mannen met stijl…waarom ook niet?! Ik voelde me glamourous en had zin om te tutten dus ging voor een prachtige chiffon jurk van River Island (wat kan ik zeggen, het blijft een van mijn favoriete merken). De lila-grijzige jurk had doorzichtige mouwen en was bezaaid met witte bling, parels en kralen bij de uiteinden (echt een eyecatcher). Thanks River Island! Ik bracht mijn mooie stiefzuster mee op de rode loper (wat een natuurlijke schoonheid is het ook hé’). Zij ging ook gehuld in een ponnetje van River Island: een ‘goddess’ jurk met lagen en glitters. Mijn fotografe Meis Belle Wahr viel op tussen de paparazzi aan de rode loper. Ik bedoel als enig jong en stylish meisje tussen mannen die meer ‘op leeftijd’ waren (niet slecht bedoeld, ik houd van paparazzi). Anyway, alle BN’ers en feestgangers zagen er geweldig uit op de loper. Mij viel vooral Don Diablo op die er hot uitzag in zijn broekpak met stud handschoenen. Ik houd ervan! Mannen met totaal uiteenlopende stijlen waren genomineerd maar Rotterdamse dichter Jules  Deelder ging er met de titel (en de prijzen) vandoor. Zijn duistere, extravagante look is uniek en het past ook zo goed  bij hem (lady Gaga had zo zijn dochter kunnen zijn). Mijn goede vriend Kurt Elshot, zijn vriendin, mijn stiefzuster en ik bleven tot in de late uurtjes drinken en feesten op de afterparty (the rich & the famous keken ons aan alsof we halve garen waren omdat we fun hadden). Hello my little darlings. I have something to share… I wasn’t going to say anything before I knew for sure but I’m happy to announce I’m going to be a reality star! Well star… maybe that’s a little exaggerated but I’m going to compete in a MTV reality show (the Netherlands) and I’m very excited about it. We start shooting very soon. I can’t tell any details yet but I’ll definitely keep you guys posted!

Hi lieverds. Ik wil iets met jullie delen… Ik wou nog niets zeggen voordat ik het zeker wist, ik word een reality ster! Nou ja ster…dat is misschien een beetje overdreven maar ik ga deelnemen aan een nieuwe MTV reality show en ik heb er superveel zin in! We beginnen binnenkort met de opnames. Ik kan jullie er verder helaas nog geen details over vertellen maar ik houd jullie op de hoogte!

Yesterday I was at my mom’s house. I didn’t have time to swing by my own place and change into a fashionable outfit and more importantly some fucking gorgeous shoes. After all I was about to attend to an event that was going to be all about the shoes. Luckily I had a killer pair wondering around at my mom’s. Shoes check! So now what am I going to wear? I can’t go outside naked wearing only shoes (al dough that would definitely make a statement) so I call my younger sister who’s currently living & working in St Tropez. I asked her; ‘permission to open the lock on your closet in mom’s house?’ she answered ‘ permission granted’. So I did. You have to remember that my sister learned from the best so she has a ridiculously pretty collection of clothing in her closet. The Tommy Hilfiger suit jacket instantly called my name so I tossed that on. I was running out of time (that’s a surprise) so I took a little tank top with black bow and an eclectic blue leather skirt. I had some panty hoses in my bag (don’t ask me why) with a hole in it so I added 2 more holes, finished the look with a purse with feathers from Zara and I was ready to go. Thanks sis!

Gisteren was ik bij mijn moeder thuis en ik had geen tijd meer om langs mijn eigen huisje te gaan om mijn outfit om te wisselen voor een fashionable ensemble en misschien zelfs nog belangrijker een paar verdomd prachtige schoenen. Het feestje waar ik naartoe zou namelijk ‘all about the shoes’ zijn. Gelukkig had ik een killer paar bij mijn moeder laten rondslingeren dus dat probleem was opgelost. Schoenen, check! Nu nog een outfit. Ik kon moeilijk naakt met alleen de schoenen over straat gaan (al zou dat wel een duidelijke statement maken) dus ik belde mijn jongere zusje die momenteel in St Tropez woont en werkt. Ik vroeg haar; ‘Toestemming gevraagd om het slot op je kledingkast te openen?’, zij antwoordde; ‘ Toegestaan’. Dus dat deed ik. Je moet je bedenken dat zij van de beste heeft geleerd dus in haar kast hangt vol met belachelijk prachtige items. De geruite Tommy Hilfiger blazer riep mijn naam dus daar glipte ik meteen in. Ik kwam in tijdsnood (wanneer niet?) dus ik koos voor een tanktop met zwarte strik en een eclectic blauw leren rokje. In mijn tas had ik nog een panty (vraag me niet waarom) waar een ladder in zat dus ik maakt er snel nog twee gaten in en maakte de look af met een tasje met veren van de Zara. Klaar om te gaan. Dank je zussie!

Central Park, Starbucks & Bloomie’s: NY here I come!

I’ve been to quite a few places within Europe and I was  lucky enough to have traveled to the Caribbean’s a couple of times where we own a house with the family. Still, there are a few places I’ve always dreamed of going to. Places like Japan, Morocco, Jamaica and the United states (NY in particular). That last one wont be a dream for much longer because if all goes well I’ll be of to New York in December for an internship. I will be working for a great designer and start a whole new adventure in a huge city were I don’t know anybody… ‘ANYBODY?!’ ‘What am I doing?’ was my second thought after the overwhelming feeling of joy had settled down. This is what I want right? I’ve dreamed about it for years now. I guess I never expected it to happen so fast. I mean I send an e-mail to reply to the opening and before I know I was having a job interview via Skype (technology comes in handy these days). Five minutes later I received an e-mail saying that they’d be happy to have me. Just like that!

There’s still a lot to arrange, I have to work my butt of for tickets and save up to support myself there but I have a good feeling about this whole thing! Sure I felt an itty-bitty-tiny little disappointment when I looked up the address where my future job is located on Google Maps and I didn’t see the street where Serena and Blair spend there days shopping and talking trash about others or the romantic doorway from Carrie’s apartment where she stood in her Manolo’s while mister Big was waiting in his Limo with Raoul the driver. What I saw was reality… Normal streets with buses & trash-cannes, normal brown semi-high buildings and most of the people dressed mediocre like in every city of the rest of the world. But that’s okay; I mean I get to go to New York!

I’ll buy a whole new wardrobe and still pretend to be starring in Gossip Girl, I’ll take the SATC bus tour and act like a total geek; I’ll ask someone to take a picture of me in front of ‘the apartment’. I’ll drink Starbucks as if we don’t have it here, I’ll find an awesome roommate to make witty remarks with like in FRIENDS, I’ll eat a XXL bucket of Ben & Jerry’s whenever I miss my boyfriend in Amsterdam and I’ll hail a cab like a pro like I’ve seen in the movies over a million times. I’ll go to museums, Central Park, the Meat district, Saks, Bloomie’s and of course Barneys (even only to window shop), I’ll have crazy Christmas shopping sprees (although I’ll have to make friends to buy gifts for first) and I’ll have a cool house party (including whine in red cups) on New Years Eve. But most of all I will be working…working for a magnificent designer and his team. Remind me why I even doubted it for a second? This is great!

Toch zijn er een aantal plaatsen waar ik altijd van gedroomd heb naartoe te gaan. Plaatsen zoals Japan, Marokko, Jamaica en de Verenigde Staten (NY in het bijzonder). Dat laatste zal niet langer meer alleen een droom zijn want als alles volgens planning gaat vertrek ik in December naar New York om stage te lopen. Ik zal voor een geweldige designer werken en een nieuw avontuur tegemoet gaan in een stad waar ik totaal niemand ken… ‘Niemand?!’ ‘Wat sta ik op het punt te doen?’ was de tweede gedachte die in mijn hoofd opkwam nadat overweldigende blijdschap enigszins weggeëbd was. Dit is wat ik wil toch? Dit is waar ik al jaren over gedroomd heb. Ik denk dat ik gewoon nooit gedacht had dat het allemaal zo snel zou gebeuren. I bedoel ik stuur er een mailtje uit als reactie op een vacature en voor ik het weet zit ik voor mijn laptop voor een sollicitatie gesprek via Skype (technologie is best handig). Vijf minuten later krijg ik een bericht waar in staat dat ze mij graag de functie willen aanbieden. Zo makkelijk ging dat gewoon!

Ik heb nog veel te regelen hoor, Ik moet zo hard als een paard werken zodat ik mijn vliegticket kan kopen en sparen zodat ik mijzelf daar kan onderhouden maar al met al heb ik hier een super goed gevoel over! Tuurlijk was ik ietsjes teleurgesteld toen ik het adres van mijn toekomstige werkplaats in Google Maps intikte en de straat die ik te zien kreeg niet de straat was waar Serena en Blair al shoppend over Jan en alleman zaten te roddelen of het portiek van Carrie’s appartement waar ze op haar Manolo’s stond te wachten terwijl mister Big aan kwam rijden met Raoul de chauffeur. Wat ik zag was de realiteit…normale straten met bussen en prullenbakken, normale bruine semi-hoge gebouwen en mensen die merendeels middelmatig gekleed zijn zoals in elke willekeurige stad op de wereld. Maar dat drukt de pret niet, ik bedoel kom op man ik ga naar New York!

Ik ga een hele nieuwe garderobe aanschaffen en doen alsof ik een personage van Gossip Girl ben, Ik zal de SATC bus tour doen en mij als een totale groepie gedragen; ‘Sir, kunt u even een foto van mij maken voor Carrie’s appartement? Tankjouu’. Ik zal Starbucks drinken alsof dat hier nog niet verkrijgbaar is, Ik zal een geweldige huisgenoot vinden met wie de gevatte opmerkingen over en weer vliegen zoals in FRIENDS, ik zal een XXL emmer met Ben & Jerry’s eten wanneer ik mijn vriendje in Amsterdam mis en ik zal een taxi aanhouden op de manier dat ik uit films heb geleerd. Ik zal naar museums gaan en Central Park, de Meat district, Saks, Bloomie’s en natuurlijk Barneys (al is het alleen om te window shoppen). Ik zal deelnemen aan de gestoorde kerst ‘shopping sprees’ (al moet ik daar wel eerst wel vrienden zoeken om de presentjes aan te geven) en ik ga een denderend huisfeestje geven met Oud en Nieuw (inclusief wijn in de kenmerkende rode bekertjes) maar voornamelijk zal ik aan het werk zijn…aan het werk voor een magnifieke designer en zijn team. Waarom had ik ook alweer een seconde twijfel? Dit is geweldig!

Two looks that might or might not (in that case get the hell of my blog!) inspire you. There’s no theme, just a bunch of stuff fashioned together. I hear you thinking: this girl doesn’t have ONE style but bezillion different styles, doesn’t she have a signature look? Well for your information I don’t! I accept different styles and go trough live as a chameleon. Sometimes I feel glamorous & sexy, urban or like a hippie and these days I feel very pop and rock-ish. So maybe my signature is that I don’t have a signature look? Hmmm…what was I talking about again? Anyway here are my pictures.

Twee looks die jou misschien kunnen inspireren, misschien ook niet (in dat geval mag je heel snel van mijn blog af flikkeren). Er is geen thema, het is gewoon een hoopje items bij elkaar gegooid op gevoel. Ik hoor je denken; dit meisje heeft niet eén look maar wel een triljoen verschillende looks, heeft ze geen kenmerkende stijl? Nou ik zal het je vertellen…nee. Nee ik heb geen rode draad die mijn eindeloze looks met elkaar verbind. Ik neem diverse stijlen aan en ga als een kameleon door het leven. Soms voel ik mij Glamorous en sexy, soms misschien wel urban of als een hippie en deze dagen voel ik mij heel pop en rock-achtig. Misschien is mijn kenmerk wel dat ik geen kenmerkende stijl heb? Hmmmm…waar had ik het ook alweer over? Anyway, hier zijn mijn foto’s.

Retro bitch : Festival outfit

Okay when I say festival you’re thinking ripped hot pants, hunter boots and an oversized tank top with a hat, sunglasses and a cigarette to accessorize. But APPELSAP (APPELJUICE) is a different kind of festival. This annual festivity in Amsterdam is a hip-hop festival. Today I enjoyed a performance from CLIPSE while dancing trough the blurry crowd. Why blurry? I was drunk, that’s why. Come to think of it, I think I still might be… Anyway, my outfit of the day; a legging from ZARA, a sweater from Gsus, gray Allstars and a necklace from Fornarina.

Okay als je festival denkt denk je hotpants met scheuren, hunter boots & een oversized tanktop compleet met zonnebril en een sigaret als  accessoire. Maar APPELSAP is een ander soort festival. Deze jaarlijkse festiviteit is een hip-hop festival. Vandaag genoot ik van een optreden van CLIPSE terwijl ik door de wazige menigte danste. Waarom wazig? Omdat ik dronken was. Nu ik erover nadenk, volgens mij ben ik nog steeds lazarus. Anyway mijn outfit van vandaag; een legging van ZARA, een trui van GSUS, grijze Allstars en een ketting van Fornarina.
